READ ON!Heritage Corridor Festivals proudly celebrated three exceptional organizations during its October Hospitality Happy Hour events — Star Union Spirits, the LaSalle County Historical Society, and Pontiac Tourism — recognizing their vital contributions to tourism, community engagement, and regional storytelling throughout the Heritage Corridor.
Each month, HCD’s Hospitality Happy Hour series brings together local leaders and tourism professionals to spotlight destinations that enrich the visitor experience and strengthen the region’s hospitality network.
The October events included the LaSalle County Historical Society (LCHS), located in downtown North Utica. LCHS preserves and interprets the rich history of the Illinois & Michigan Canal Corridor through exhibits, special events, and the annual Burgoo Festival, which attracts thousands of visitors each fall. Their ongoing efforts to maintain the canal-era buildings and expand educational programs continue to deepen the cultural and historical tourism appeal of the region.

Another celebration honored Pontiac Tourism, a leading example of small-town creativity, driving big tourism results. From the iconic Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum to its collection of outdoor murals, mom-and-pop shops, and hands-on visitor experiences, Pontiac draws travelers from around the world. Their innovative approach to showcasing heritage and community pride has made Pontiac one of the most visited Route 66 communities in Illinois.

The final stop of the month recognized Star Union Spirits in Peru — an award-winning craft distillery located inside the historic Westclox building. Founders Jeff Yosowitz and Bob Windy have helped transform the space into a hub for tourism and entertainment, drawing visitors for tours, tastings, and events. Their focus on locally sourced ingredients and creative small-batch production makes Star Union a must-stop destination in the Illinois Valley’s growing craft beverage scene.

“Each of these organizations plays a crucial role in strengthening the story of our region,” said Robert Navarro, President & CEO of Heritage Corridor Destinations. “Their passion, creativity, and commitment to hospitality make them invaluable partners in promoting the diverse experiences that make the Heritage Corridor such a vibrant place to visit.”
Heritage Corridor Destinations extends its sincere appreciation to Pontiac Tourism, the LaSalle County Historical Society, and Star Union Spirits for their leadership, collaboration, and contributions to regional tourism growth.
